New Recycling Policy from Government

The Queensland Public Works Department has recently released a new policy and guidelines about recycling for building and civil infrastructure. ’The Queensland Government is committed to maximising the resource recovery of materials used in building and civil infrastructure projects in order to help conserve natural resources and contribute to ecologically sustainable development…’ 

Requirements to recover a minimum of 40% (by weight) from landfill of construction, refurbishment or demolition activities will be phased in for large government demolition or redevelopment projects. In the longer term, the availability of recycled materials will provide resources for your activities. The Environment Protection Act and Workplace Health and Safety Act and associated regulations and the Waste Management Strategy all are applicable to implementing this policy.
