Want to reach for the sky? Intrigued by how things work?
A career in one of the trades associated with the automotive, building and construction or engineering industries may be the future you are looking for. TAFE Queensland provides quality training for a variety of roles to meet the future demand for workers in these industries. Skill shortages in many of these trades mean that there are good job prospects.
The automotive industry offers many career options in highly skilled trades such as motor mechanics, panel beating, automotive electrics engineering and support roles including the specialist field of selling and warehousing automotive replacement parts.
Building and construction trades offer a range of trades ranging from carpentry and cabinetmaking, floor finishing and covering, glazing, painting, plumbing or plastering.
Electrical technicians carry out complex technical functions in the planning, design, manufacture, construction, operation and maintenance of electrical facilities, equipment and distribution systems. Electronics engineering associates are similarly placed between technician and professional levels. Civil engineering associates provide technical support to civil engineers.
Miners operate equipment to excavate, load and transport coal, ore, mineral sand and rock either underground or in open-cut mines.

TAFE also offers school-based apprenticeships and traineeships which allow high school students to work for an employer, train towards a recognised qualification, and complete their secondary school studies.
If you are already trade qualified, TAFE Queensland can also assist you to expand your existing skills in both technical and supervisory capacities through its range of post-trade (sometimes referred to as advanced trade) programs. The primary goal of these programs is to enhance your career opportunities.

''Years of deliberating whether or not to go ahead and complete my Builders Course after 20 years on the tools, I was put at ease when I first met my RPL Assessor. This was a very flexible process which I am pleased I pursued.” Michael Richie of Daisy Hill studied carpentry at SkillsTech Australia’s Salisbury Training Centre.
